Frequently asked questions about LVP installation
How flat does a subfloor need to be for click-lock LVP?
Most click-lock LVP manufacturers specify flatness within roughly 3/16 inch over 10 feet, but the exact tolerance varies by product and the manufacturer’s own figure always governs. Check the published instructions before quoting the prep — a tighter spec can change the grinding and levelling scope substantially.
Why is my LVP buckling in only one room?
Buckling confined to one room points to a local trigger rather than a whole-house problem: the floor pinned by trim, a threshold or a heavy fixed object; moisture entering in that room alone; or a large temperature swing from sun exposure or a nearby heat source. Trace the local cause before pulling planks.
Does click-lock LVP need to acclimate before installation?
Most manufacturers ask for acclimation in the installation space, commonly 24 to 48 hours at normal living temperature, while some rigid-core products state it is not required. Follow the product’s own instructions — skipping a required acclimation is a common warranty exclusion.
Can you install LVP over an existing tile floor?
Often yes, provided the tile is sound and well bonded and the grout lines are filled so they cannot telegraph through. The real constraints are added height at doors and appliances, and confirming the substrate beneath the tile is dry. Loose or hollow tiles must be addressed first.
